Trees are not only wood.
Trees play an intimate role in many of the world's mythologies – for good reason. They are the oldest living things on the planet, respected across all cultures as symbols of power, life, wisdom and greatness. In many religions, trees are said to be the homes of spirits. With their branches reaching up into the sky, and roots deep into the ground, they provide a link between heaven and earth, uniting above and below. Trees are, quite literally, a symbol of all life.

They are our roots.
Without trees, our environment as we know it simply could not exist. Trees form an important component of the natural landscape, preventing soil erosion, moderating ground temperature and providing weather-sheltered eco-systems in and under their foliage. They play a vital role in producing oxygen and reducing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, acting as 'carbon sinks' to remove pollution from the air.

NEWtrees is a reforestation initiative by WWF Indonesia and supported by leading corporations including PT. Surya Palacejaya.
NEWtrees activity allows companies to make a positive impact on the environment by replanting trees in Sebangau National Forest in Central Kalimantan, an area of gambut forest producing a large amount of CO2.
Jelutung trees planted under this program will be maintained and protected for a period of 10 years by the local Dayak community together with Sebangau authorities under WWF supervision.
Trees planted are meant for forest conservation, but the program also acts as a direct response to the threat of climate change, CO2 absorption and global warming – as well as providing shelter for countless flora and fauna, including one of the largest remaining orangutan populations in the world.
